Princella Parker RedCorn is Latina and a citizen of the UMÓⁿHOⁿ Nation (Omaha Tribe of Nebraska). Her UMÓⁿHOⁿ name is Watawi (“Victorious Bird”) and she descends from roadmen of the Native American Church and strong Matriarchs from her Hamilton family tree. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Theatre from Creighton University and a master’s degree in professional journalism from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
In 2016, Princella earned the prestigious “Native American 40 Under 40 Award” - an award which recognizes and celebrates those who have demonstrated leadership, initiative, and dedication, and who have made significant contributions to their community. Princella produced two documentary films with a national broadcast on PBS … Standing Bear’s Footsteps and Medicine Women which included the story of Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte, the first Native to earn a medical degree and who was the primary physician on the Omaha reservation from the 1890s through the remainder of her life. Princella is currently writing a screenplay for A Warrior of the People which is also based on Dr. Sue’s life.
Princella works for the Shawnee Tribe as Communications Coordinator. She enjoys teaching trauma-informed yoga and raising her two highly spirited children with her Architect/Dreamer husband Jon, on the Osage Nation reservation in Oklahoma.
