A couple for 30 years, Bec and Nuria are both entering retirement. In an effort to save money and embrace a simpler lifestyle, they decide to sell their beloved home in San Francisco and move to Spain. As part of the move, they opt to join forces with Marta, an ex-lover and life long friend of Nuria’s, by purchasing a house together in Spain. This decision makes Bec uncomfortable but offers obvious financial benefits including lower housing costs and increasing budgets for traveling.

Living in a shared space together in the new house doesn’t go smoothly and nearly destroys Nuria and Bec’s thirty year relationship. The situation also nearly destroys the fifty year friendship between Nuria and Marta.

Overwhelmed and unhappy, Bec leaves for several months to think. Bec takes a solo side care adventure in Ireland. Lonely without Nuria, Bec returns to Spain but feels trapped between her love for Nuria and the realization that she will never be comfortable in the new house because she doesn’t enjoy spending time with Marta. After much discussion, the couple decides to sell the new house and end the housemate situation with Marta.

Life takes an unexpected turn for the couple when their their plus one, Marta, falls seriously ill. Nuria and Bec find themselves at a crossroads, faced with the daunting choice between preserving their cherished thirty-year relationship or succumbing to the pressures of circumstance to care for a friend in failing health. It becomes clear that their choices extend far beyond mere living arrangements; they now must confront the profound impact these decisions will have on their shared existence.

As they grapple with changing dynamics and uncertain futures, the couple realizes that friendship and love can be complex forces that shape and transform lives in unexpected ways. With each passing day, they navigate uncharted territory, seeking harmony between the bonds of love and friendship and the desire for an authentic and fulfilling way of living.

When Nuria is killed in a car accident, Bec is left with a difficult dilemma. Will Bec provide long term care to Marta?
