Un Violon: Short Film
When her grandmother falls ill, a young girl, desperate to play violin, must make her first performance her greatest.
Un Violon" unfolds through the eyes of eight-year-old Alexandra, who lives with her mother and her ailing grandmother, Laura, a seasoned violinist. Each night, Alexandra watches local musicians play in the town square from her apartment window, dreaming of joining them. As Laura's health deteriorates due to COVID-19, Alexandra's only escape is her small violin, which she plays in hopes of connecting with her grandmother's legacy.
Ultimately, "Un Violon" is a film about hope and human connection. It is about finding light in the darkest of times through the beauty of music.
Filming in Girona will allow us to encapsulate not just a sense of place, but also a feeling of warmth and community that is essential to the story. This film is a tribute to everyone who faced the pandemic with courage and who found new ways to connect and care for each other despite the physical barriers.
Based on a dramatic short script by Australian screenwriter Joanne Bellew, the script was a 2023 Page Award Silver winner, reached #1 on Coverfly’s 2023 Annual Red List for Family Shorts and was was listed as a Finalist in the Roadmap Writers 2023 Shorts Competition.
The film will be filmed in 2024 in Girona, Spain.
